Food for thought. I will experiment and try this the next time I have to mediate a family situation. Interesting that instead of hearing and understanding what the other person says, we often take our own beliefs and interpret what they say, which is most often completely different from what they said. Does that make any sense?

I agree. "Say more" is many positive things. I can't think of a negative. It is inviting, freeing and afirming on multiple levels.

Good stuff. I noticed in a recent mediation with you that I observed that you also use a query "what does that mean?". Very effective in helping a party to analyze and explain their comment(s). In a future blog could you address "we'll come back to that" and how putting off discussion of a topic has been good and bad?

Thanks Jess

That was great, in a good way it was a smack across the face! I thought about that and realized it's true we don't let the other person talk and say or feel what they are saying.
Thanks Kathy
