I will experiment and try this the next time I have to mediate a family situation. Interesting that instead of hearing and understanding what the other person says, we often take our own beliefs and interpret what they say, which is most often completely different from what they said. I noticed in a recent mediation with you that I observed that you also use a query "what does that mean?". Very effective in helping a party to analyze and explain their comment(s).
